	California College of the Arts Viewbooks
	
	The California College of the Arts underwent a full rebrand in 2017. Working with the team at Volume Inc., we were tasked to take the new brand’s colors, typography, and photography, and apply them to their undergraduate view books forpotential students. To expand the traditional printed booklet form of viewbooks, smaller inserts were bound within the book to highlight interviews with current students. 

An additional, small-scale fold-out piece was designed for easy distribution at college fairs or recruiting events.

	Alisal District Identity
	Identity for the Alisal district of Salinas California as a part of the Alisal District Identity Master Plan created in collaboration with SWA and Urban Field.The Plan aims to strengthen the district’s cultural and physical identities to better match the area’s cultural richness, community spirit, and diversity.

The project worked with community members and district residents to create an identity that best represents the heart of the Alisal.

	After being emersed in Alisal history, the landscape, and talking to residents, three questions came to the forefront: How could the Alisal identity evoke the culture and people of the Alisal—yesterday, today, and tomorrow? How might the Alisal identity invite participation from the community to help make it their own? How might the Alisal identity speak to creating a vibrant future for the Alisal? Three design directions were created and presented to the community for them to comment on in person and online.

	Of the three ideas, the “Community Building Blocks” option resonated most with the public. One block is just a block. Multiple blocks, and you have structure, strength, and protection. Many blocks and you have a neighborhood, a community. The blocks symbolize different facets of the community. When they come together, they create unique and dynamic letters and patterns.

The design system allows for further variation and customization, including developing additional patterns and “filling” the logotype formats with photographic or illustrative content.

	Mutual aid is about community coming together when larger systems fail.

Handpainted “Xs” inspired by the historic architectural remnants, along with numbered dock markers, add a lively visual layer to the space. 	To represent the harnessing of nature to create structure and energy, the logo started off as a full circle. But that felt too closed off for an organization about collaboration, so it was halved into a gateway to give a feeling of openness.

	Fort Mason Flix Logo
	Logo design for the Fort Mason Flix film series. During the pandemic lockdown of 2020, the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco began hosting outdoor drive-in style showings of contemporary and classic movies. Playing off of the proximity of Fort Mason to the ocean, the logo’s stripes are based on the “Dazzle” camouflage used by Navy ships during the World Wars.Design Agency: Volume Inc.

	Omni Commons is a radical multi-use space in Oakland, California. This hand-drawn typographic piece was designed for gathering awareness for their fundraiser on social media.
To represent the eclectic and diverse people who use the Omni Commons spaces, as well as the diversity of the kinds of events, each letter is its own unique and distinct form.
